Welcome and Welcome Back! |

To our new students, welcome to the Tutorium! To our returning students, welcome back! We hope you had a wonderful short vacation. Let’s make this a great semester!

Are you planning to drive to campus this semester? If so, you can apply for parking online at: http://parkingservices.uic.edu. Once you sign in, you will see the information for students. Scroll down to see the fee options. There is a pay-by-the-day option, but it is not efficient for frequent parkers. If you need to drive only a few times, check this out: Value Card Parking Program (pay by the day).
Here’s information for parking at UIC. You may need to compare prices. There are 2 choices:
|
-
Student Value Card ($9 per day) - This is a great option if you plan to drive to campus occasionally (not every day).
- Daily Parking ($15 per day) - -This is probably the worst choice, but it is paying the daily rate for parking: $15 each day. You can do this without a value card or a permit.

A U-Pass is a CTA (Chicago trains and buses) pass. The fee for the U-PASS is $125 from May 13 to August 12.
Students continuing from Spring 2026:
You will have the same U-Pass status that you had in the Spring. If you had a U-Pass, then you will get one again. If you didn’t have a U-Pass, you will not get one.
New Students:
You must opt-in (sign up for) a U-Pass. If you want to opt-in, change, or check your U-Pass status for this Summer semester, go here. The CTA U-PASS is available for any student taking six or more credit hours.
Last day to opt in: 11:59 p.m. June 29. (After this date, you can NOT change your status and ask for a U-Pass. Please opt in this week!)
Pick up your U-Pass at SCE (Student Center East) at the ID office, using your iCard. It may take 6-8 days to receive your U-Pass after you opt-in, so do not expect it immediately, but go to the ID office to get a temporary bus pass. More U-Pass information.

No Classes on Monday, May 25 |
|
|
|
On Monday, May 25, there will be no classes because of the Memorial Day Holiday! Memorial Day is a holiday where we celebrate and mourn those who have died during service in the U.S. military. This day also allows our students and faculty time to personally mourn the military loved ones they've lost.

Email is the official form of communication at UIC. It is very important that you check your emails from UIC on a regular basis. Emails from the Tutorium (tutorium@uic.edu) and OIS (ois-tie@uic.edu) are especially important.
Pay careful attention to emails about your classes, immigration status, and insurance. Check your spam or junk mailbox.

Get to know your classrooms |
Once you find your classroom, make sure you walk around the building and familiarize yourself with the place: you will be spending a lot of time there!
In Addams Hall (AH), we have the Tutorium office (AH 105) where you can find the Tutorium front desk—this is where you can ask questions about anything related to your studies or your life in Chicago. We have classrooms in AH 104 and AH 110.
On the second floor of AH, you can find the nearest restroom, hallway to Taft Hall (TH), the African American Culture Center (go say hi and admire art that they usually have there), and also a small room with a microwave to heat up your home lunch.

Maxwell Street Experiences |
Do you like markets? Would you like to experience Chicago's very own century-old Maxwell Street? Then I have two amazing experiences for you to try right near UIC's campus (between Thomas Beckham Hall and Marie Robinson Hall)!
At the Maxwell Street Market, you can find anything from local UIC food favorites like Jim's Original Hot Dogs and Express Grill to handmade crafts, clothing, and household items for sale.
For more information about dates and locations, please check out:
