Girls' Day at the Museum Returns - February 12!

Wanted: GIRLS who are problem solvers, explorers and hidden gem seekers—for a day of science fun! The LSU Museum of Natural Science and LSU College of Science invite girls in grades 4 through 6 to apply to attend. For Students:  Hands-on science activities, AND snack and chat with some of LSU's top women scientists. For Guardians:  A tour and advice on how to foster your daughter's STEM interests.  Deadline to apply - Jan 14th!

Coding Workshop for K-5 Educators - January 29

Bring coding to your school or program by attending the FREE + FUN Code.Org hands-on workshop in the state-of-the-art LSU Patrick Taylor Engineering Hall on  January 29th. Participants will explore and take home Code.Org's FREE elementary school curriculum!
Audience:  Elementary educators, pre-service teachers, school and public libraries, afterschool providers

NOAA Ocean Acidification Program Education Mini-Grant Program

This NOAA Mini-Grant Program aims to engage diverse audiences in ocean acidification education and outreach, while developing innovative approaches for community involvement. Proposals are due on February 18, 2022. The rogram anticipates awarding between 7-8 education and outreach projects totalling $300,00 in 2022.  Apply Here.

5 Ways to Bolster Students’ Confidence in Math

Exposure to a variety of approaches to problem-solving provides students with opportunities to improve their math skills. This Edutopia article stresses the need for incorporating concrete mathematical problem solving for students. It’s important for students to be aware of the processes they are building as problem solvers and how that will help them to be ready for the future in more than just the math classroom. LASM Receives $168,833 Federal Grant from IMLS for “Healthy Aging with LASM”
LASM's three-year arts and wellness grant program will serve senior adults in the capitol region through a variety of activities and free programming including “Virtual Voyages,” which will include hands-on activities; distributing Virtual Reality headsets pre-loaded with virtual art and science content, hosting in-person workshops in partnership with arts and wellness specialists; and distributing free museum admission passes. Great partners include Council on Aging and Baton Rouge General Arts in Medicine Program.
