Do you remember a time when you used to hope?
Do you remember a time when you used to hope?

Luke 24:31, 45
31  Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight.
45  Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures.
New International Version (NIV)
“Grand Opening!”  I saw the huge sign in big bold red letters from the freeway as I drove by.  When was the last time you went to a store on the first day it opened?  I am a bit averse to crowds these days.  Wouldn’t it be better to wait until the second or third day?  Those who wait might miss the free gifts.
Our God is good at opening things!  On the first Easter, Jesus emerged victorious from the tomb.  Then he accompanied two disciples who had lost hope on a seven mile walk.  He listened as they explained how hope had moved to the past tense for them, “We had hoped . . .”  As he taught them about himself, and broke bread with them, he opened their eyes to see him.  Later when the other disciples did not understand, Jesus opened their minds to understand the scriptures.
How did hope move into the past tense for you?  Do you remember a time when you used to hope?  Come to the Grand Opening.  Our God opens graves, opens eyes to see and opens minds to understand.  Come today and open the gift of life!
Pray with me:
Great giver of hope, would you awaken our hope again as we listen to the truth and lift our eyes to see you.  Teach us how to walk with the risen Lord for our whole lives, we pray.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Scripture reading for today:
