Are you curious about the academic job market, or are you planning to apply for academic jobs this fall? Build your knowledge and confidence by attending UChicagoGRAD’s Academic Job Market Summer Camp. You’ll receive advice from UChicagoGRAD, Office for International Affairs and Chicago Center for Teaching and Learning advisors as well as faculty from a range of institutions in the US and beyond. The camp features presentations on immigration options for international PhD students and postdocs interested in the US academic market, as well as a panel on pursuing faculty positions outside the US. | Navigating the Job Search in Uncertain Times

Join this workshop to learn strategies for conducting a successful job search amid shifting hiring trends and layoffs. Designed for graduate students and postdocs, this session will help you reflect on your priorities and introduce considerations for identifying opportunities that align with your goals and timeline. The session will include a Q&A portion, and is appropriate for all graduate students and postdocs, including those from international backgrounds.

myCHOICE mini-course: Introduction to Teaching and Learning in STEM Education

Developing your teaching philosophy is an important step in strengthening your skills as an educator. This two-part workshop series uses reflective and interactive activities to introduce effective learning strategies, guide you in developing your approach to teaching, and support you in taking the first steps toward crafting your teaching philosophy. Participants will explore how people learn, identify effective teaching strategies, and engage with experienced educators in a roundtable discussion to gain insights into diverse teaching environments.

| Sacred Grounds, Gospel Sounds
Sunday, June 1, 2:00–9:00 p.m., First Presbyterian Church, 6400 S Kimbark
The event celebrates the gospel legacies of Chicago in connection with Oak Woods Cemetery, where many gospel notables like Thomas A. Dorsey, Albertina Walker, Otis Clay, and Pops and Oceola Staples have been laid to rest. The day’s events will include a choir performance as well as a performance by William Kurk, great grandnephew of Thomas A. Dorsey, the father of gospel music. This will be followed by a gospel walking tour to the nearby cemetery.

Join us virtually for a conversation with Graham School Instructor Douglas Post (author of some 40 plays, musicals, screenplays, teleplays and radio adaptations) as he interviews three working American playwrights about the complexities involved in writing political plays in our current day and age.

PhD Childcare Stipend Applications open May 30
Are you a UChicago PhD student who is also a parent? You may be eligible for UChicagoGRAD’s childcare stipend! Eligible students can receive up to $4000/year for one child, and up to $5500/year for two or more children. Applications must be submitted annually in Summer quarter – if you received a childcare stipend in previous years, you still need to submit an application for Summer 2025. Summer quarter applications will open on Friday, May 30. The deadline to submit is Friday, June 20. For more information on eligibility, please visit UChicagoGRAD’s Childcare Stipend page.
