Late-drop Courses 

Students have the option to late drop individual courses starting the 3rd week of the term through the Friday of the 10th week of the term. A grade of "W" will show on the transcript for the late dropped, otherwise known as "withdrawn," course(s). More information on the course late drop policy can be found in the UIC Undergraduate Catalog.

Last week's las Ganas Study Session - In last week's study session students made slime, ate pizza, and studied for their exams together in the library!
Mentoring con Ganas
In class this week, mentors and mentees had the opportunity to meet 1:1 while enjoying delicious horchata drinks and an assortment of pastries! Discussions varied but mainly consisted of midterms, advising, tutoring, registration time tickets, FAFSA, etc.
Research Fellowship
This week las ganas research fellows engaged in an interesting discussion surrounding history of science in Latin America and emphasizing the importance of understanding the challenges faced by the Latinx and scientist community in STEM in the Latino Cultural center!

Kaplan MCAT course for at NO COST to eligible students!


The HCOE is happy to announce the Kaplan MCAT course for at NO COST to eligible students who will be applying to medical school cycle 2026.  Following are the eligibility requirements:
  • First-generation and financially challenged  students 
  • Completed medical school pre-requisites 
  • Space in this program is limited to 20 students
  • Selected students must commit to completing the coursework and sign a contract to that effect
The course code is MT1GL24170. The Kaplan MCAT course will be online beginning December 9, 2024-January 7, 2025 Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. Eastern Time (Chicago is Central Time will be 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.)
Participants will have access to the MCAT Live Online Course for 12 months.

Volunteer at Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago on october 25th from 2:30 to 5:30 PM
Eat n Peace with think outside da block - October 18 and 25 at 4:00 PM, help youth learn about healthy nutritional food through guided instruction from culinary experts in the community
Text banking with chicago votes - October 15 to november 4th at 6:00 PM, support civic action by sharing important information about the upcoming election with chicagoans
Career Enhancing Opportunities
RISE Germany and Professional Interns 2025
RISE offers research internships in Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Earth Science, Engineering and Physics or a closely related field. By November 30, interested students can apply for internships at universities, companies and research institutions in Germany!  
Students can enhance their knowledge through hands-on research. They can gain international experience and discover Germany’s unique research landscape.
Two virtual information sessions in the next two weeks:
