Medical Humanities Certificate
Choose general education and elective courses that are relevant to your health education goals! The Certificate in Medical Humanities allows students to select courses that use interdisciplinary approaches to explore and understand how health and health care operate in diverse cultural and social contexts.
The certificate is comprised of five courses (15 credit hours). Enroll in ANTH 216 Health, Medicine, and Society, and at least one of a selection of courses that focus on an aspect of health or healthcare. Complete the certificate with some of the electives suggested below or choose other courses that interest you in consultation with the certificate advisor.

Requirements for the Certificate:
ANTH 216 Health, Medicine and Society (3 credit hours)
At least one of the following (but all elective credits may come from this list) - 3 credit hours:
COMM 205 The Media Health Environment
ECON 215 Health Economics
GWS 262 Gender, Race, Health and Human Rights
PHIL 116 Medical Ethics
SOC 251 Health and Medicine
Up to three other elective courses (consult with the advisor) - 9 credit hours
Total Hours for the Certificate: 15 credit hours
