What is your name?
Laura Seal

Where was your internship located?
In Olancho, Honduras with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

How has the experience influenced your career path?
With all that I have learned about public health and research, there is a lesson that I learned that is even more important in my opionion. I no longer want to help people, but I want to serve people. I discovered that people do not need my help – I am not better than or more important that the people I hope to impact throughout my life.
However, I may be able to serve them by giving them the tools they need and may not have access to, through program and intervention development and providing the correct products for clean water.

What were your major tasks or projects?
I worked with a team of epidemilogists to collect surveys from houses which previously installed water filters, took water samples to check for E.coli, conducted focus groups, and built databases.
