State of Nursing Education in Kansas Published

The Kansas Nursing Workforce Center released the State of Nursing Education in Kansas report. This report includes 120 pages of charts and information about nursing education programs, broken down by program type (BSN, ADN, PN) in Kansas.

The data analyzed—from Kansas Board of Regents, Kansas State Board of Nursing, National Council of State Boards of Nursing, American Association of Colleges of Nursing, and Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing—describes the characteristics of the Kansas nursing education pipeline.

KansasNursingSchools.com Launched

Have you accessed KansasNursingSchools.com, a free web tool and Kansas Nursing School Guide that helps potential students explore nursing education options at all schools with nursing programs in Kansas? The new website provides easy access to Kansas nursing school information including:

Drawn from publicly available information, the goal of KansasNursingSchools.com is to make it easier for potential students, and the people who guide them, to access the resources and tools to find the nursing program that fits them best.

National Forum of State Nursing Workforce Centers

Kansas Nursing Workforce Center data scientist, Dr. Alex Alsup, taught a pre-conference workshop at the National Forum of State Nursing Workforce Centers annual conference, “Illuminating the Future: Solutions for Tomorrow’s Nursing Workforce”. Attendees of the workshop learned how to create a web-based dashboard for displaying nursing data and gained hands-on experience building a dashboard page.   

Advisory board member Robert Mangold, MSN, RN, Chief Nursing and Operations Officer at Logan County Health Services, and president of the Kansas Organization of Nurse Leaders, joined Center members for the conference.

Mangold reflected:  “As both a nurse leader and a Kansas Nursing Workforce Center Advisory Board member, I was especially struck by the strong emphasis on policy advocacy, including the importance of Title VIII funding and the collective power of nurses’ voices in shaping legislation.

Sessions highlighted that workforce shortages can be less about supply and more about creating roles and environments nurses are willing to work and remain in, reinforcing the need to invest in nurses as a strategic asset rather than a cost.

I appreciated the focus on nurse well-being, particularly the call to address systemic contributors to burnout and to design healthier work environments in partnership with nurses themselves.

Discussions on transition-to-practice, mentorship, and leadership development underscored the importance of supporting nurses across the entire career continuum to improve retention and readiness.

Overall, the conference reinforced that sustainable solutions will require coordinated efforts across policy, education, and practice; an approach I am proud to help advance in Kansas.”

Last month I was excited to share that we launched the KansasNursingSchools.com web tool designed to help people better understand the  nursing education options in Kansas.

To continue our commitment to measuring what matters and providing reliable public-facing data and information about the nursing workforce, my gratitude goes to the Workforce Center team and all the contributors who produced the first State of Nursing Education report which was published today.

This report serves as a primer on what it takes to deliver nursing education, and it describes the nursing education programs in our state in detail, including the bright spots and leaks in our education pipeline, by program type.

We hope you download the report, and put it work as you help create effective solutions to educate, retain, and sustain the Kansas nursing workforce.
