2024 Statewide Homelessness Report Released
This report combines information from multiple sources to create estimates of homelessness and shelter beds across Oregon in 2024. Sources include the Point In Time (PIT) Count, Housing Inventory Count, and school district reports. Statewide unsheltered homelessness totals are not available from 2024 because the federal government only requires such counts in odd-numbered years, and some regions opted out of the 2024 count.
Key findings:
- Oregon saw a 24 percent increase in sheltered homelessness from January 2023 through January 2024, sheltering 1,736 more individuals for a total of 8,842 people.
- Between 2023 and 2024, 2,455 year-round shelter beds were added across the state — a 32% increase in capacity — reaching a total of 10,408 year-round beds.
- There were 22,072 K-12 students, about 4% of students across the state, who experienced homelessness in the 2023-24 school year.
- Oregonians who identify as American Indian, Alaska Native, or Indigenous; Black, African American, or African; or Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander continue to experience homelessness at much higher rates than their proportion of the overall population.
