The fall 2022 Dean’s List highlights the scholarly achievements of our students; flutist awarded Navy’s Blue Jacket of the Year award; chemistry major and biochemistry major publish undergraduate research; and more
Arnold Ivey took what he gained at the IUP Academy of Culinary Arts and launched a career that has seen him rise to executive chef, owner of a line of spices and rubs, and a 2020 participant on Guy’s Grocery Games on the Food Network. He’s now executive chef at IronRock Tap House in Greensburg. Hear how IUP was a key ingredient in his recipe for success.

Dean’s List for Fall 2022
Undergraduate students receive recognition on the Dean’s List for each fall, spring, or summer term in which they earn at least a 3.25 GPA based on at least 12 credits of graded (not P/F) undergraduate coursework, or a combination of graded graduate and undergraduate coursework.
Lewis and Colleagues Publish on Equity Issues in the Natural Sciences
Jon Lewis and colleagues, in their nascent community of practice, the Coastal and Ocean STEM Equity Alliance, published an open-access commentary arguing for a rethinking of committee work. Their article, published in American Geophysical Union Advances, is titled “Rethinking Committee Work in the Research Enterprise: The Case of Regenerative Gatekeeping.”
Students Present at Appalachian Teaching Project Symposium on Experiential Walking Trails
IUP students recently participated in the Appalachian Teaching Project Symposium and presented on two experiential walking trails they designed during course-based research. The first trail is a Native American Awareness Trail that engages Indiana County’s Indigenous heritage. The second trail is a Paranormal Walking Tour that builds upon local lore and oral histories.
Undergraduates Publish Research Paper in Journal Tetrahedron
Abra Dadum (BS Chemistry ’22) and David McLean (BS Biochemistry ’24) published their undergraduate research, “Chemoselective oxidation of alcohols in the presence of amines using an oxoammonium salt,” in the journal Tetrahedron with their research advisor, Justin Fair, and collaborators from Old Dominion University.
Music Alumnus Honored by United States Navy
Petty Officer 2nd Class Brenden Goff, a 2016 Department of Music graduate, was recently recognized by the United States Navy with the Blue Jacket of the Year award. Goff is a flutist in the US Fleet Forces Band in Norfolk, Virginia.
