2 Samuel 7:18-19
Then King David went in and sat before the Lord, and he said:
“Who am I, Sovereign Lord, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far? And as if this were not enough in your sight, Sovereign Lord, you have also spoken about the future of the house of your servant—and this decree, Sovereign Lord, is for a mere human!
New International Version (NIV)
What would you like to do for God?  We know we owe him.  What great thing can we do for Giod?  Even more important:  what has the Lord done for us?

When David consolidated the Kingdom of Israel, he decided he wanted to build a house for God.  After all, the Ark of the Covenant was still contained in a tabernacle, a tent.  David asked Nathan if he could build a house for God.  Nathan immediately said, “Yes,” but then heard God’s voice say, “No.”  God’s promise is better than David’s good intention.  “You will not build a house for me,” God said, “but I will build a house for you.”  God kept his promise.   David’s descendants were Kings of Israel and Judah.  One of his descendants is still King . . . of all the Kings and Lord ofall the Lords.  Jesus was part of the house God built for David.

Never tire of telling what God has done for you.   Through his magnanimous grace we have been born again and ushered into his family.  Look at the love the Father has lavished on us:  that we should be called the children of God.  In gratitude for grace we do all the good we can for God.  Through eternity we will not sing about what we have done for God, but about what he has done for us.
Pray with me:
Father, we thank you for the privilege of serving you.  Because you first loved us we love you.  In gratitude for your goodness give us the grace to do something for you today.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
This year we focus our Every Day with Jesus readings on Jesus’ story.  With references to Tallowood's Read Through the Bible in 2018 daily reading plan, let's focus our undivided attention on Jesus and follow where he lead. He will not fail. Neither will we!

Joyfully,
