Deuteronomy 1:6
The Lord our God said to us at Horeb, “You have stayed long enough at this mountain.
New International Version (NIV)
Do you ever feel stuck?  My family drove the Alcan highway to Alaska when I was an infant.  A sign on the unpaved portion said, “Choose your rut well.  You will be in it for the next 20 miles.”  Someone else said, “A rut is just a grave with both ends kicked out. “

The Israelites had been making laps, stuck in the wilderness for forty years.  They waited for a whole generation to die off before they could go forward.  The actual trip to the promised land from Mount Horeb was an eleven day trip.  Forty years to make an eleven day journey sounds miserable.  How many times did the kids say, “Are we there yet?”  Then one day Moses said, “Enough.  You have stayed long enough at this mountain.”

What is God telling you to leave behind?  What rut do you need to leave today?  Good news:  God will carry you on Eagle’s wings when you are ready to go.  God is on the move.  We can never stay where we are and go with God.  Be assured of this:  God’s undying love is enough to get you out of your rut and all the way home to him.
Pray with me:
Father, we have decided no longer to linger.  Get us out of the ruts which bog us down spiritually.  At your word we will move.  Show us where you want us to go.  We put the “yes” of our obedience on your table.  Use it as you choose.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
This year we focus our Every Day with Jesus readings on Jesus’ story.  With references to Tallowood's Read Through the Bible in 2018 daily reading plan, let's focus our undivided attention on Jesus and follow where he lead. He will not fail. Neither will we!

Joyfully,
