¡FELIZ NOVENO DÍA DE LOS MUERTOS!
In the Middle School on Friday, the all-school, student-led Day of the Dead fiesta turned the Great Hall and the art room into a corner of Mexico for an afternoon. In the ninth year of this anticipated annual tradition, eighth graders researched and cooked authentic Mexican dishes for everyone, learning as they did about the origins of many popular foods. Seventh graders prepared beautiful ofrendas(offerings) and made oral and written presentations in Spanish and English to celebrate and commemorate the lives of family members who have passed away.
As St M is proud to be a designated International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle School, this festive project-based learning opportunity fits the IB learner profile. IB learners are reflective, and reflecting on how different cultures remember and honor the dead encourages our students to see what is unique and what is universal about our own culture.

The play is called The Trial of Miz Margaret Malone. National award winning playwright, Bo Wilson, whose work has been published and produced all over the country, has turned his talents this project which is being created especially for St. Michael's.  By turns a comedy, a coming of age tale, a spoof of courtroom drama, and a poignant story that reminds us the senior citizens are just as vulnerable as children, The Trial Of Miz Margaret Millicent Malone is a full-length play that will delight kids and parents alike.
