"What children need most are the essentials that grandparents provide in abundance. They give unconditional love, kindness, patience, humor, comfort, lessons in life. And, most importantly, cookies."
~Rudy Giuliani
Grandparents Day
St. Michael's was delighted to welcome over 100 grandparents to our School on Friday for fun-filled morning of singing, interviews, love notes and family-tree activities. This annual First Grade tradition has been a part of St. Michael's culture for decades and is a special time for children and grandparents to connect and spend time together. Most charming were the special Grandparent portraits that our first graders created.
Many of our grandparents and special guests traveled near and far to be a part of this day. Thank you so much for coming! (And many thanks to all of the first grade families who volunteered to make this event such a success!) Be sure to check out the School's Facebook page for more fun photos of the day!
Join Us for "Meetings with Michael" on Growing Up Digital (+ Digital Survey)
Our children have never known a world without the internet, mobile phones and social media. As Digital Natives, young people need “training wheels” in the social and educational uses of technology. For many parents, this is scary, unchartered territory.
Please join us for the next installment of "Meetings with Michael" as we explore "Tips and Tools for Parenting Digital Natives." We will have a special guest and technology expert joining us.
Date:    Tuesday, April 19
Times:
  • 7:20 a.m. at the Lower School, Dundas Hatcher Hall (free "Open Gym" child care will be provided)
  • 1:30 p.m at the Middle School, Singleton Campus Great Hall
To frame the conversation to include the digital parenting topics our families are most interested in, we would love your input. Please fill out this short survey. Thanks!
Transition to Middle School
We cordially invite our rising sixth grade parents to a Middle School Orientation on Thursday, April 28 from 8:30-9:30 a.m., at the Lower School. Bon Air Campus, in Dundas Hatcher Hall.
Digital invitations were sent out. Thank you for responding by Monday, April 25.
Middle School Faculty Welcome
St. Michael's extends a warm welcome to Mrs. Jennifer Evans, who will be joining our Middle School faculty in the coming school year as a teacher of math.
Mrs. Evans comes to us from Grace Christian School in Mechanicsville, where she taught middle school math and technology. Previously, she taught middle school math in Richmond City and Henrico County Public Schools. Jennifer is a graduate of VCU (B.S., Business Administration), and has a Masters Degree in Teaching (MAT) from Mary Baldwin College with an endorsement in Middle School Mathematics. She is currently pursuing a second advanced degree in Leadership in Mathematics Education (Ed.S.) from Regent University. Welcome aboard!
St. Michael's Community Survey Coming Soon
Strong parent/family engagement is a core strength of the St. Michael's community. As St. Michael's values input and feedback from our families, we are putting the finishing touches on a community survey that will be sent out shortly. Our goal is to solicit feedback from our families every year via this annual survey. Thank you in advance for taking the time to share your thoughts with us.
Teacher Appreciation Week Wrap Up
Thank you to all the parents who contributed food and beverages to Teacher Appreciation Week!  If you brought in a platter or serving dish to the Bon Air campus, and have not retrieved it yet, please check the SMPA room.
Coffee House Creativity

For decades, the local coffee house has served as a cultural destination for a community--  a place where folks gather to engage in fellowship and conversation, share ideas and experience local art, literature and music.

This week, the seventh grade presented their own Coffee House program.  Students shared insightful selections of their poetry, short stories, creative writing and art from their study of the Harlem Renaissance and other units from this school year.

Check the School Facebook page for more photos!
