Dear Stony Brook University Community,

I am delighted to announce two Interim appointments in Facilities & Services.

Jeffrey Sabatini, Interim Associate Vice President for Campus Operations & Maintenance (COM)
Effective July 1st, 2024, Jeff will lead our dedicated COM team, overseeing the operation and management of all campus facilities. Jeff brings a wealth of experience to this position. Currently serving as the Director of Construction for Campus Planning, Design & Construction since December 16, 2022, Jeff has provided leadership and guidance to the Project Management Office ensuring successful completion of campus projects and collaborating with the State University Construction Fund (SUCF) to help continued efforts for securing capital funding. Prior to that, Jeff served as a valuable member of the CPDC team for eight years as a Project Manager. His responsibilities included planning, designing, and executing major renovations and capital projects, including the new Medical and Research Translation (MART) building, Hospital Pavilion Patient Bed Tower, Innovation & Discovery Center, and the UNITI Cultural Center. Jeff also led the construction of Stony Brook’s Covid testing and vaccination sites, the alternate care field hospital, and emergency repairs following the Tropical Storm IDA flooding events on campus.

Prior to joining Stony Brook University, Jeff served as a Deputy Base Civil Engineer (Major) for the New York Air National Guard and worked as a Senior Engineer at the Pall Corporation. Jeff holds a Master of Science in Energy Management from New York Institute of Technology, a Bachelor of Science in Facilities Engineering from SUNY Maritime, received an Unlimited Third Assistant Engineer license from the United States Coast Guard and is a Certified Energy Manager by the Association of Energy Engineers.

Eric Tiedemann, Interim Director of Construction for Campus Planning, Design & Construction (CPDC)
Effective July 1, 2024, Eric will bring a wealth of experience to this role, having served as a Project Manager for CPDC since November 2021.

In his capacity as a Project Manager, Eric has successfully directed multiple projects related to physical space rehabilitation, renovation, new construction and emergency response. His ability to coordinate with campus leadership, stakeholders, and physical plant staff has been instrumental in executing many important initiatives. Eric has developed and fostered strong partnerships with outside agencies such as SUCF, DASNY and OGS which has been instrumental in strengthening our reputation and positioning us for successful capital advocacy.

Before joining Stony Brook University, Eric held a significant leadership position at the New York City School Construction Authority (NYCSCA). As Senior Project Officer, he led a diverse team of 25 construction professionals, managing a portfolio exceeding $700 million across 61 sites. His expertise extended to the design, development, budgeting, and execution of various projects, including new buildings, renovations, capital improvements, rehabilitation, maintenance, emergencies, and compliance.
