CUE Receives $850,000 Grant to Strengthen Colorado’s Workforce

The University of Northern Colorado competed for Back to Work funds and was awarded $850,000 to be used over a three-year period, starting this fall. Specifically, the Center for Urban Education (CUE) will use $600,000 for student financial support, $225,000 for student support services, and $25,000 for outreach and recruitment efforts.

The purpose of the grant is to help workers displaced by the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic obtain a college degree and “get back to work.” The Displaced Workers Grant is part of Senate Bill 21-232, which the Colorado General Assembly passed on June 24, 2021. The bill appropriates $15 million to the Colorado Department of Higher Education (CDHE) for the Colorado Opportunity Scholarship Initiative (COSI) Back to Work grant.
“We are thrilled to support the state’s goal of strengthening the workforce while also addressing Colorado’s teacher shortage,” said Dr. Rosanne Fulton, Director of the Center for Urban Education. “We focus our efforts on recruiting first-generation college students and people of color, and this grant will greatly amplify our ability to attract and retain new teacher candidates.”
