I am writing this morning to expand upon our earlier text message regarding the Peiffer Gate closure and to provide important information about drop-off and pick-up procedures for the remainder of the school year.
Last night, at approximately 9:18 PM, a vehicle driving on Peiffer Avenue accidentally collided with our back gate. The driver paused briefly before reversing away from the school and driving off. We want to reassure you that this appears to be an unfortunate accident rather than a deliberate act, and there was absolutely no on-campus activity at any point during the night.
I am working closely with the Wilmington Police Department, who are currently reviewing footage of the incident alongside Facilities Manager Mike Cook. We are taking immediate steps to ensure the continued safety of our students while we await repairs to the Peiffer gate. This includes fastening old gates together at Peiffer so that campus remains secure and closed off from the public, resulting in a single-gate entry system for about a week.
