Dear Secondary Parents,
One of my favorite middle school history teachers used to tell our class, “I hope you packed a lunch, because we’ve got a lot of ground to cover.” With less than a month to go until the 2015-2016 school year begins, I feel like there is a lot of information to convey about this new year, and I would like to address as much of it as I can at once. So, you might want to pack a lunch — we’ve got a lot of ground to cover.
Important August Dates
New Student Orientation, Thursday, August 6th
  • All students and parents who are new to CAC’s secondary campus (including all 6th and 7th grade families) are invited to join us August 6th at 6:30 p.m. to go over some details about the fall semester. We’ll review daily schedules, class locations, and answer back-to-school related questions (i.e. pickup/drop-off, lunch details, etc.).
Middle School Day One, Tuesday, August 11th
  • All incoming 6th, 7th, and 8th graders will jump-start their school year at Middle School Day One. Middle school students will have the chance to meet their teachers a day early and get accustomed to the flow of a school day while also meeting their new classmates. Presentations by our new Band Director, James Wilhite, and Choir Director, Tori Beach, will be made to middle school students to help finalize their music elective selections.
First Day of School, Wednesday, August 12th
  • All secondary students will meet in Cone Auditorium at 8 a.m. for our first assembly. We’ll run an abbreviated class schedule where students will meet teachers and receive their class syllabuses.
Open House, Thursday, August 20th
  • Parents of secondary students are invited for an informative evening where we’ll discuss new items for this school year and allow parents to visit their students’ classrooms and interact with teachers. There will also be booths for parent volunteer groups, sign-ups for specific communications, and the rollout of the 2015-2016 PFTA Spiritwear (credit cards accepted). Open House begins August 20th at 7 p.m.
The Wave, Friday, August 21st
  • All secondary students and faculty are invited to The Wave. We’ll meet in the band room Friday evening for an all-campus devotional, then transport students down the road to Wild River Country where we have reserved the entire park just for CAC. The price is $10 per ticket (season passes are not permitted). We will let you know the start time closer to the date.
You can view the full academic calendar for the 2015-2016 school year on CACMustangs.org.
Class Schedules
Initial class schedules for middle school and high school students are now available on RenWeb. Schedules were created using student requests, the sequencing of CAC’s course schedule, and the courses offered for specific periods. Certain adjustments can be made to individual schedules, and these requests may be sent to our registrar, Sonya Gates, at sgates@cacmustangs.orgMrs. Gates can also help with issues related to your RenWeb account.
Before and After School Policies
We have made some changes to Mustang Mountain's before and after school policies. Please take a few moments to review and become familiar with these changes, which will also impact CAC's extended care options. Extended care information for the new year is available on the school website.
If you will be utilizing this service, please return your signed and completed contract to the business office or send a digital copy to our bookkeeper, Terri Dodd, at tdodd@cacmustangs.org prior to the first day of school.
Fall Sports Registration
Students who intend to participate in cross country (7th-12th), golf (9th-12th) or tennis (9th-12th) need to complete this short fall sports registration form to help us anticipate the number of students interested in each sport. Please complete this form as soon as possible.
Our football and volleyball teams will be having initial practices and camps throughout early August. Interested parents may contact football coach Tommy Shoemaker (tshoemaker@cacmustangs.org) or volleyball coach Ken Roberts (kroberts@cacmustangs.org) for more details.
Bus Registration
CAC will offer bus transportation from North Little Rock Elementary and Pleasant Valley Elementary to the secondary campus each morning, as well as from the secondary campus back to the respective elementary campuses in the afternoon. This service will be free for 6th grade students for the 2015-2016 school year. CAC's bus transportation policy, pricing plan and contract are available on the school website. Contracts can be turned in to the business office or sent to Terri Dodd at tdodd@cacmustangs.org.
Class Supply Lists
Over the next few weeks we will continue to update the class supply lists found on the secondary campus's class supply lists webpage. Finalized lists will be posted prior to Tax Free Weekend (August 1st and 2nd).
Summer Reading Assignments
As a reminder to all 7th through 12th grade students, summer reading lists can be viewed on the website. With class schedules now posted, please be sure to check the assignment for your English course.
That's it for now. Please let me know if you have any questions about these items or about the new school year in general. I look forward to seeing you in August!
