Wellness is the Start of Student Success |
|
|
You've got your class schedule, you've reviewed the syllabus, and you're a few weeks in... so it's time for another wellness check-in!
Take a look at the Wellness Wheel and reflect on these mid-semester prompts:
|
-
Since the beginning of school, where have I spent the most (or least) time each week?
- Does my weekly routine include each of the domains of wellness?
- What area(s) of my life could use some support?

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month |
|
|
September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, a critical time dedicated to raising awareness about suicide prevention, supporting those affected, and fostering a culture of mental health and well-being.
Let's take a look at the facts about suicide and its impact on our community:
|
- 25% of students at the U report feelings of loneliness regularly (NCHA, 2023)
- In the United States, suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death among people ages 15-24 (NAMI)
-
1 in 20 U.S. adults have serious thoughts of suicide each year (NAMI)
- Suicide is preventable, and you can play an important role (CDC)

This campaign reminds us of the importance of emotional wellness and how simple actions like regular check-ins can have a big impact.
|
Peer Wellbeing Ambassador, Katelyn Russell, shares why she’s taking action with this campaign in a recent blog post:
“A few months ago, I was informed that my distant family member died by suicide. Although I didn’t know him very well, his absence has deeply impacted my family. Through this loss, I learned that it is critical to check in with the people we care about and create strong connections so people are not afraid to share when they are struggling… One thing I’ve learned through working on this campaign is that there are many ways to practice emotional wellness, and that there are resources on campus where you can get support long before something develops into a crisis.”

Starting three days before each clinic, students can reserve a spot on Medicat. There will be (2) spots available per 15-minute block. Our maximum testing capacity during these two-hour sessions is approximately 25 students.
Testing is conducted on a first-come, first-served basis for drop-ins, and wait times will vary. We highly recommend booking an appointment to ensure you are seen that day.

Student Affairs Announces 2025-26 Campaigns to Improve Campus Health & Wellbeing |
The 2023 Campus Climate Survey found that 48.4% of students feel their health and well-being is a priority at the U. That number shows progress, but also opportunity—to ensure even more students feel supported.
The Student Health and Wellness team is joining forces with Student Affairs offices across campus to strengthen health and wellbeing by hosting eight awareness campaigns this year.
