Exodus 16:4-5
Then the Lord said to Moses, “I will rain down bread from heaven for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day. In this way I will test them and see whether they will follow my instructions.  On the sixth day they are to prepare what they bring in, and that is to be twice as much as they gather on the other days.”
New International Version (NIV)
In the Disney movie Aladdin, the lead character asks, “Do you trust me?”  Knowing what we know about this lovable thief, we want to answer:  “No.  You have not earned our trust.”  What about God?  If he asked the same question, how would we answer?

As the Israelites traversed the wilderness they needed water and food.  Where would they find it?  First, God provided water.  Then he promised them food.   Their story reveals a sincere lack of trust in Moses and the Lord.

We see the same pattern in the New Testament.  In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus told his disciples not to be anxious for food or clothing.  Paul applied this to the church in Philippi urging them to present petitions and prayers to God with thanksgiving.

Take a moment to look at your story.  What are we anxious about today?  What causes us concern?  Do we trust God to provide for our needs?  Then let us obey, without fear.

Pray with me:
Father, all that we have learned about you from your word and in our lives makes us trust you for all that we do not yet see or understand.  Teach us to trust you one moment at a time today.  Deliver us from our chronic anxiety.  When we taste your goodness, we shall not want.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
This year our Every Day with Jesus readings will follow The Bible Project Read Scripture Plan.  Copies of this reading plan are available at Tallowood Baptist Church, or download
the app at readscripture.org.  Read through the Bible with us in 2019!
Joyfully,
