Are you in God’s waiting room today? What if our waiting, far from diminishing us, enlarges us like one a woman expecting a child? “Those who wait upon the Lord, renew their strength . . .” David ruled one tribe for seven years waiting for God to fulfill his promise to make him shepherd over all of Israel. Many more years had passed since Samuel anointed the shepherd boy and he defeated Goliath. While David was running for his life, fighting as a mercenary, refusing to kill Saul, God was working, preparing him for what lay ahead.
Once God fulfills his promise, we must be prepared to act decisively to obey him. The Jebusites were some of the last Canaanites who had not been displaced by the Israelites. They set up a stronghold, a seemingly impregnable stronghold in Jerusalem. So when David chose their fortress as the place he would rule, he marched in to defeat them. The Jebusites taunted David and his soldiers with some serious “trash talk.” “The blind and lame could keep you out.” They told David he couldn’t conquer them. Nevertheless David and his men did.
What was the secret of David’s success? Why was he able to finally eject the Jebusites? The Lord was with him. He waited on the Lord until the Lord renewed his strength. What is God teaching us while we wait on him today? God is preparing us for what he plans to do in us and through us. Your labor today will not be in vain. God is giving birth to something better than we could have imagined.
