Walsh University Named a College of Distinction

Blouin Scholars in London

The senior class of the Blouin Scholars, led by Dr. Karen Stock and Professor Jennifer Vokoun, traveled to England this week. While in London and Twickenham, they will work with St. Mary’s Catholic University, Roman Catholic Diocese of Salford, and the Laudato Si Research Institute (Oxford) to assist with the Guardians of Creation Project, the Catholic Bishops Conference of England and Wales response to Pope Francis’s call in his encyclical on the environment, Laudato Si. The Blouin Scholars will assist four different dioceses in organizing data to implement change to meet sustainability goals and ecological actions developed by the project. The cohort will return to our community with the experience and knowledge necessary to create an adapted plan with the Diocese of Youngstown Office of Peace and Justice.

Emergency Action Plan Training

Walsh University’s Athletic Department including coaching and administrative staff participated in Emergency Action Plan (EAP) training run by Walsh Athletic Trainer Angela Heintz in collaboration with North Canton EMS and Campus Police. Heintz divided participants into small groups who practiced locating and using the AED (Automated External Defibrillator) equipment on campus including inside the Cecchini Center and on Larry Staudt Field. In one scenario where coaches practiced a life-saving measure, they had only six minutes to assess a student who experienced cardiac arrest, call an EMS with their precise location and the nearest entrance, start chest compressions, retrieve an AED from a designated location and wave down EMS. Campus Police also spoke to participants about active shooters and the North Canton EMS explained what coaches should do in these situations.

Last Friday, Walsh University welcomed members of the Class of 2027 during the first of four summer orientations, a time to learn the lay of the campus, meet with academic advisors, learn more about the campus culture and traditions, and make new friends! Swords Up!

Congratulations to Rebecca Coneglio, Vice President for Enrollment Management, and Tim Gray, Director of the Skilled Technical Workforce Program, graduates of the 36^th Signature Class of Leadership Stark County. Leadership Stark County is a 10-month program designed to immerse participants in the local community while developing and uncovering leadership skills and innate talents.
