As fall arrives, leaf-peepers across the South Carolina Upstate eagerly anticipate the annual transformation of forest canopies into brilliant displays of red, orange and gold. Donald Hagan, associate professor of forest ecology, says the leaf color season in the southern Appalachian Mountains is off to a promising start despite damage from Hurricane Helene.
The Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) has named Clemson one of six finalists for the 2025 Innovation and Economic Prosperity Awards, which honor institutions making significant contributions to talent development, innovation and community engagement. Winners will be announced during APLU’s annual meeting in November.

September is Hunger Action Month, a nationwide movement to raise awareness of hunger and food insecurity and ensure local food banks have the resources they need. Both The Nook (employee-focused) and The Paw Pantry (student-focused) are run entirely on donations: both physical and monetary. Faculty and staff interested in supporting the pantries can either donate non-perishable items and household essentials or make a monetary donation.
