Bicycle Tourism Projects Receive $1.5 Million in Recreational Trails Grant Funding

The Recreational Trails Grants Program (RTP) recently announced its 2016 grant recipients and more than $1.5 million was awarded to support bicycle-related infrastructure projects.

The 2016 grant recipients include:
  • City of Cascade Locks Gorge Hub (sponsored by City of Cascade Locks) - This project will provide a trailhead for hikers and bikers along the Historic Columbia River Highway and the Pacific Crest Trail crossing, including restrooms, a bicycle repair station, parking, and a drinking fountain.
  • Low Rogue River Trail Restoration (sponsored by Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest) - This project will restore the 12-mile Lower Rogue River Trail and improve mountain biking opportunities along the Southern Oregon Coast.
  • Coos Forest Trail System (sponsored by Coos County) - This project will develop approximately 11.5 miles of a new bike-optimized singletrack trail system, along with supporting infrastructure, in the Coos County Forest. The 11.5 miles in development represents roughly one third of the planned 30 miles of world-class trail in this system.
RTP grants are federally-funded grants administered by the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department for recreational trail projects, such as hiking, running, bicycling, off-road motorcycling and all-terrain vehicle riding. For more information, contact Mike Law at RTP.GrantProgram@Oregon.gov
