As we enter the final stretch of the semester, we encourage all students to begin preparing for end-of-year closing. All residential buildings will close for non-graduating students on May 7 at 12:00 p.m. (noon).
In the coming weeks, you’ll receive additional details about move-out procedures, including expectations for cleaning your space, returning keys, and completing Express Checkout. Planning ahead will help ensure a smooth and efficient departure process.
If you anticipate needing additional time beyond the closing date, be sure to review the Late Stay policy and procedures.
Thank you for your cooperation in helping us close the academic year safely and successfully—we appreciate all you’ve done to contribute to our residential community this year!

WashU Residential Life provides students with an opportunity to remain in Residential Life housing beyond their checkout date, but for specific reasons.
|
Some of the scenarios below would qualify for a Late Stay:
|
-
You are graduating, or your sibling is graduating. Siblings of graduating students will be charged for each night’s stay.
- You are registered for summer session one and summer school housing.
- You are registered for summer intern/research housing.
-
Participation in a WashU affiliated program that requires a late departure date (e.g., athletics). If you fit this criteria, your group/department/coach will submit a Late Stay on your behalf. Please connect with them soon to discuss your eligibility for a Sponsored Late Stay.
- You are unable to make travel accommodations due to finals schedule (usually only applies to international travel).
|
Late stays will NOT be approved for any of the following reasons:
|
- Transition to an off-campus apartment or private lease
- Any type of scheduled test or certification
- Starting new employment
- Forgetting or ignoring communications sent from Residential Life and/or Conference Services regarding occupancy.
- Requesting a date beyond the deadline.

Avoid using magnetic card holders, sleeves, or phone cases for your WashU ID and Room Key Cards. The magnetic material can damage the technology in your cards, causing them to stop working and potentially locking you out of your room. To keep your cards working properly, store them in a non-magnetic holder or wallet. In the event that your WashU ID stops working on any Residential Life facility, stop by the nearest Residential Life office for assistance.
