In late February, the University announced an additional $10.3 million gift from Jon Murray, BJ ’77, to the Murray Center for Documentary Journalism. The gift brings Murray’s total contribution to the center to $17 million, marking the beginning of the center’s second decade as an increasingly buzz-worthy presence in the documentary film industry. The gift will power a new era of support for students and alumni creating and distributing films.

Alexis Johnson, BJ '15, is a PR manager and head of social impact for Beats by Dre. Alexis has helped launch transformative programs and collaborates with celebrities, athletes and cultural influencers on campaigns that promote diversity and social change. Follow her vibrant journey as a “Midwesterner in LA,” working on global projects and connecting with Beats’ worldwide fanbase.

Triple your impact on Mizzou Giving Day!

During Giving Day, the first $25,000 in gifts to the Potter Fund for Innovation in Local Journalism will be tripled with 2:1 matching funds from Walt Potter, MA ’81. The fund supports the Potter Digital Ambassadors Program, a key resource for small and rural news organizations in Missouri, as well as initiatives like the Reynolds Journalism Institute’s Digital on Demand Services program. Professor Amy Simons has received Mizzou’s highest teaching award, the William T. Kemper Fellowship for Teaching Excellence. A 15-year veteran of the School of Journalism, Simons is course coordinator for J1400 — an introductory course in applied projects for journalism and strategic communication — and an in-demand trainer for industry professionals and school districts on responsible use of AI.

| Missouri Method in Action
|
Quentin Corpuel, a junior at the Missouri School of Journalism, is the 2025 Rick Hummel Memorial Intern at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Corpuel will follow in the footsteps of a long list of interns since the highly competitive program’s founding in 2007, all of whom began careers in journalism after graduating.

Journalism and strategic communication students once again formed a dominant presence in Mizzou 18 and Mizzou ’39, prestigious honors recognizing graduate and undergraduate students for leadership, academics and research. This year’s class represents a wide variety of experiences and service to the community.
