Happy New Year! While we are enjoying a quiet campus during Intersession, we are busy planning for an exciting spring semester. As we await the return of our Blue Jays to campus, we hope that you are enjoying some time with your student at home.

Last month, JHU Student Affairs held a new event to honor students and staff who exemplify the Aspirations for Student Learning, the five key learning outcomes that we hope students will develop through their out-of-classroom experiences: curiosity, self-awareness, collaboration, confidence, and responsible leadership.

The inaugural Aspirations Celebration award ceremony recognized five students and two staff members who are making an impact and inspiring others both on and off campus. We hope you’ll join us in congratulating them on their remarkable achievements:

For families of sophomores, now is a great time to start thinking about off-campus housing for next year. If you’re considering moving off-campus, the Student Financial Services website and the Off-Campus Housing Office have excellent information to explore. Please note that Student Financial Services calculates the EFC (Expected Family Contribution) precisely the same way no matter what sort of housing you have, so moving off-campus shouldn’t cause your total costs to increase—but you can always contact them with any questions or concerns.

Johns Hopkins is excited to bring back the ice rink at Homewood campus after its exciting debut last year! The ice rink is a great opportunity for students to create new memories and engage with the JHU community for a fun winter experience. Access to the ice rink (and rental skates) will be free of charge to all participants, though advanced registration is required. Visit the Johns Hopkins Ice Rink at Homewood website for more information or to sign up for a session.

As we head into Intersession, we encourage our families to complete their financial aid applications for the 2023-24 academic school year.

Please visit the Financial Aid website if you’d like additional information on the application process or if you’d like to schedule an appointment with a financial aid advisor.

When the Office of Student Outreach and Support needed help operating the Hopkins Food Pantry, graduate student Alan Gorny and more than 30 other members of the JHU football team stepped up. Over the past nine months, they have helped to revitalize the program, which has distributed nearly 13,000 pounds of food since March to help address food insecurity on the Homewood campus.
