Manufacturing Week

More baby boomers are leaving the workforce than graduates are joining it.
When Jason Veal, a mechatronics instructor at Siegel High School, heard that, he told himself, “It’s kind of a perfect storm we’re walking into right now.”
Siegel was one of six schools – Rockvale Middle, Blackman Middle, Oakland Middle, Christiana Middle and Smyrna High being the others – that took part in Manufacturing Week tours organized by the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce and the Rutherford Works program.
Nissan hosted four tours and Bridgestone had a pair, while Calsonic Kansei and Schwan Cosmetics USA each had one.

2018 Rutherford Works High School Internship Program Placements


The Rutherford Works High School Internship Program partners with employers who offer students productive and meaningful work assignments with a learning component ideally related to their area of interest.

Employers who host an intern will:
  • Host students from May 31 through June 30, 2018.
  • Host the students 16 hours per week Monday through Thursday (schedule to be decided by student and employer)

  • Designate an individual (mentor) to supervise the intern and serve as employer point of contact
  • Provide a safe work environment and related training if needed
  • Evaluate the intern’s performance and provide feedback to Internship Coordinator
Apply by December 1st to host a 2018 High School Summer Intern
