Labor Day Office ClosingDue to the Labor Day holiday, OGS closes at 4:00 PM ET on Friday, September 2 for the Labor Day holiday. We reopen on Tuesday, September 6 at 9:00 AM ET. There are no advising hours on Monday, September 5.

Transfer to NYU from another US university?
All transfer students must obtain a new I-20 by Thursday, September 15 in order to maintain F-1 status. Make sure you have completed all steps in our transfer checklist.

Are you registered as a full-time student?In order to maintain legal status in the US, students in F-1 and J-1 status are required to register full-time, which is a minimum of 12 credits per semester for most NYU programs. Make sure you register full-time or gain approval from OGS to be approved for a reduced course load.
Graduate Students:Â Check with your department on what they consider full-time enrollment to be. If for any reason you won't be registered full time, you must have OGS permission to be registered for a reduced course load.

Have you updated your US address and phone number in Albert?All students must have an up-to-date US residential address and phone number in their NYU records. If we don't receive this information, you risk losing legal status in the US. See instructions on how to update your US address and phone number.

Get your I-94 record with your latest travel updatesIf you are a continuing student who traveled outside the US during the summer and have just returned, get your most recent I-94 record and be sure to print it out. If there is missing or incorrect information, please schedule an online advising appointment.

Make sure you are aware of your work options after you graduate! If you’re a student in F-1 status, learn more about and apply for Post-Completion OPT by mid-September! If you’re a student in J-1 status, learn more about and apply for academic training!

Fall 2022 International Spouses and Partners English Program
Application Deadline September 9th
Applications are now open for the Fall 2022 International Spouses and Partners English Program! This program provides non-credit English instruction for the spouses and partners of NYU’s international students and scholars. The classes, taught by graduate students from the NYU Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development, focus on conversational English and American culture, and are offered in 12-week sessions during the fall and spring semesters. The cost is $105 per semester. Find more information about the program including how to apply.Â

Central Park Tour
Central Park is one of the most famous and beautiful city parks in the world. Come and find out why on this part bicycling, part walking tour. Get acquainted with some of the park's most intriguing, iconic nooks and crannies, as well as lesser known areas. Later, relax in the vast expanse of the Sheep Meadow and enjoy a picnic made up of New York deli-style sandwiches, complete with chips and drinks!

Central Park Picnic for International Parents and FamiliesÂ
Join for food, new friends, and pro tips from current students! Meet at 3pm in the lobby at Kimmel Center for University Life to travel there together OR if you want to meet there at 4pm enter at 106th Street & Central Park West, go up the stairs to the Great Hill and look for balloons/signs.

On-campus Employment for F-1 and J-1 Students Webinar
Are you an F-1 or J-1 international student who just started (or wants to start) working on campus? There are some extra steps you should be aware of, as an international student. This workshop covers what kind of documentation will you be expected to have, how to apply for your Social Security Number (SSN), and a review of tax resources for non-residents. Learn the basics of this process and get key information on what to expect as you find your on-campus job.

Orientation: New International Student Meeting
This meeting is intended for new international students in F-1 or J-1 status who did not attend an OGS Orientation: New International Student Meeting at their school. In this meeting we will discuss topics like work, travel, and adjusting to life at NYU with Office of Global Services staff! This meeting will give you plenty of chances to connect with other students and review important concepts, both new and already reviewed in the online training.
You must complete both the US Immigration Requirements Training and the New International Student Welcome to NYU Meeting to fulfill the orientation requirement.

Academic Training for J-1 Students
Are you a J-1 student wondering how to work off campus in the United States? Come to this workshop to learn more about the most common form of off-campus employment authorization for J-1 students: Academic Training. We'll talk about what Academic Training is, how to apply, the processing timeline, what documents you'll need, and other items to consider, like tax, health insurance, and getting a Social Security Number.
