Walsh Museum Studies senior, Brianna Birkle, has been an integral part of the Stark Heritage Emergency Response Team planning committee since its inception in January of this year. The goal of the group is to help connect heritage organizations with local first responders and to provide training on disaster preparedness. On October 2nd, over 20 heritage professionals from Stark and Summit County gathered at the Massillon Museum to learn about fire prevention and get hands-on-experience using fire extinguishers. In the photos you can see Brianna extinguishing a small fire with guidance from the Massillon Fire Department utilizing the PASS method (pull, aim, squeeze, sweep).

Drs. Yanmei Xu and Randy Rair led students from SOC 311 and EDUC 107 on a service-learning trip to Our Lady of Peace (OLOP) Catholic School in Canton. The Walsh students shared lunch with the children and presented interactive workshops on a variety of topics, including healthy eating, dental hygiene, physical activity, using chopsticks, folding clothes, and making smoothies. These sessions not only provided valuable learning experiences for the OLOP students but also allowed Walsh students to develop leadership skills and strengthen their commitment to community engagement through service.
