Career Enhancing Opportunities
UIC Student Affairs has opened its application process for scholarships to support continuing students during the 2025-2026 academic year. Applications are now available for over 30 competitive scholarships for students across colleges and academic disciplines.
Students can log in to the UIC SnAP portal to review the specific requirements of each scholarship. Students must submit a General Application in the portal before addressing criteria specific to each scholarship. The deadline for applications is Jan. 28, 2025. It is recommended that students visit UIC SnAP well in advance of the deadline to participate in this scholarship process.
Mental Health First Aid is a nationally recognized course from the National Council on Mental Wellbeing. UIC is having FREE Mental Health First Aid sessions that are virtual and in-person, this November and December. Here, participants will learn what to say and do when working with someone who is emotionally distressed. This training clearly defines the role of the “Helper” and the Five simple Action Steps for supporting a distressed student, colleague, or family member.
Participants will learn:
- How to listen nonjudgmentally
- How to offer reassurance and Information
- How to assess for risk of suicide or self-harm
- How to encourage appropriate professional help
- How to encourage self-help and other support strategies
This FREE session (valued at a $170.00) will teach participants how to apply the MHFA Action Plan (ALGEE) in real life situations. Open to UIC students, faculty, and staff. Participants who complete all course requirements will receive a MHFA participant manual and Certificate upon successful completion.
