Hi Neighbor!
Recently, a friend and I were kvetching about people who don’t smile or say hello on the Radnor Trail. We both agreed that all it takes is a nod, a quick wave, or a smile in passing. But is this a fair complaint? At the risk of sounding “nasty,” do we always have to be present and in the moment?
For some, the Radnor Trail is a place for solitude and reflection. Running and walking clears the mind. It gives a person a chance to think through tough situations, release stress, or unwind after a rough day at work or with the kids. For others, the Radnor Trail is a place for physical endurance. Runners use it for race training which requires concentration and determination. I’m an avid runner, and when I’m zoned out and training, I could pass by a fire without noticing!
My friend and I were too quick to judge. The Radnor Trail is a chance for “alone time” as much as it is a chance to be social, catch up with friends and wave to strangers.
So, I hereby apologize if I don’t wave or say hello the next time I’m running!
Happy Trails!
Beth
