Meet Rev. Hannah
Dear Members and Friends,
I am delighted to be joining you as your Assistant Minister starting this August! I began my journey as a Unitarian Universalist at my childhood congregation, Olympia Brown UU Church, in Racine, WI, so I am thrilled for the chance to return to my home state of Wisconsin and to share my ministry with you all at the Fox Valley UU Fellowship.
Between the time I left Wisconsin after graduating from high school and now, I’ve explored cities as diverse as Tempe, AZ, Baltimore, MD and Cheyenne, WY. I’ve held jobs as varied as a middle school teacher of English to Speakers of Other Languages, and a fancy restaurant host. And I’ve served as a lay leader, intern, and settled minister in many different UU congregations. (In fact, it was my delight to serve as an intern at the UU Church of Annapolis, MD while Rev. Christina was one of the ministers there!) If you’d like to read the long version of the winding road that brought me to ministry, you can read my extended biography here.
I love congregational life, and I’ve been a church nerd pretty much my whole life, so I am ready to dive head-first into a ministry that focuses on how we connect with the community. And when I say community I mean it both internally at the Fellowship and externally with the wider community in Appleton and the Fox Valley. I’m ready to dive into questions like: How do we care for one another in community? How can we create a sense of genuine belonging in a “post”-pandemic congregation? How do we understand the congregation in the context of the wider community? The Fellowship is full of open-hearted Unitarian Universalists ready to roll up their sleeves and do the work of living our faith with integrity. You are just the people with whom I want to engage these essential questions!
I look forward to getting to know one another better starting in August, and my family and I are looking forward to finding our way in Appleton when we move there in July!
In faith & gratitude,
Rev. Hannah Roberts Villnave
