Answers to the Most Common Questions We’ve Been Getting Lately
I’m not sure if I am eligible to receive the booster shot yet.
If you received the final dose of your primary series vaccination of
any WHO-listed or FDA-authorized vaccine before August 21, 2021, you are eligible to receive a booster. If you received
the J&J vaccine before November 21, 2021, you are eligible to receive a booster.
I recently had COVID-19; how long should I wait before getting the booster shot?
You should get your booster shot as soon as you have met the criteria for ending isolation. There is no medical contraindication to receiving your booster shot as soon as you have cleared isolation.
I’m an international student. I am not in the US and don’t currently have access to FDA-authorized boosters. What should I do?
Please
complete this form if you are an international student and you will not be able to arrive within the United States by January 24, 2022 to begin the Spring 2022 semester. Don’t wait until you’re back in the US to make an appointment to get your booster shot; do it now, either through the
Student Health Center or at one of the many
vaccination sites in NYC. Upload proof of your COVID booster vaccination immediately after receiving it. Allow a few days for the Immunization Team to review and validate your booster proof.
I’ve uploaded my proof of vaccination, but I continue to receive communications saying I am not compliant.
Remember: there is a lag between when you upload and when your upload is reviewed and accepted. If you want to be sure you have uploaded successfully, go to your page on the SHC portal. If you can see your submission, you uploaded successfully. If you go into “immunizations,” look for your immunization history, and see the date of your booster, then you have not only uploaded successfully,
your documentation has been accepted.
I have an issue about my compliance with the booster requirement and I have written to StudentLink or PeopleLink or health.requirements@nyu.edu but haven’t heard back yet. Should I write again?
OMG, no; please, no. We are working hard to get through all the inquiries we’ve received, truly.
When I go to the SHC portal to upload my proof of getting a booster shot, the only ‘booster’ choice it seems to offer is Moderna. However, I got a Pfizer booster. What am I supposed to do?
It’s a little confusing, but the answer is simple.
The reason there is a separate listing in the selection box for the Moderna booster shot and the original Moderna vaccination is that the doses differ; for Pfizer and J&J, the doses are the same, so there’s only one selection for those vaccines.
So, if your booster was Moderna, choose “Moderna booster” in the drop-down box. If your booster was Pfizer or J&J, chose “Pfizer CoVmRNA” or “Janssen/J&J CoV” from the selection box.
