Submitted by Reporter Gabi Westphal
In April we had our annual pizza fund raiser. We made 900 pizzas! Greta Z., Noah C. and Emily H. measured out the cheese that went on the pizzas. Our May meeting was held in the pavilion at the Eldorado Park. Gabi W. showed a painting she made and Greta Z. gave a speech on the tools and techniques she uses to get her beef ready for the fair. At our June meeting Austin L. brought his rooster and gave a speech on taking his rooster to the fair. Brooklyn J. talked about showing sheep at different shows and the awards she’s won.

Whisking Up Fun: Inside Foodie Camp | Submitted by 4-H Summer Intern Makayla Stommel
Last week, June 15–17, youth participated in Foodie Camp, a three-day cooking adventure filled with delicious recipes, kitchen skills, and lots of fun! The camp began with learning kitchen basics and kitchen safety before jumping right into making cinnamon rolls and coleslaw. For lunch on the first day, the theme was Asian cuisine, featuring crab rangoons and orange chicken with rice. Many youth had never tried crab rangoons before, making it a fun new experience to prepare and taste. In the afternoon, youth made granola bars, flavored grapes, scotcheroos, copycat Crumbl cookies, and chocolate pudding. To wrap up the day, youth sampled their creations and worked on their Foodie Camp recipe books, where they wrote reviews and colored pictures.
On day two, youth got right back to work in the kitchen, making fruit roll-ups using a dehydrator. They also prepared breadsticks, fruit dip, and veggie dip. Lunch included pinwheels and cheesy broccoli soup. After lunch, campers enjoyed a game of Food Bingo before making and decorating cake pops. They also learned how to create layered drinks and made peach jam. The day ended with enjoying their cake pops and adding more pages to their recipe books.
The final day was just as exciting. Youth started the morning by making bagels, pasta salad, mochi, and banana bread. For lunch, they used their homemade bagels to create breakfast sandwiches with meat, eggs, and cheese. In the afternoon, campers finished Foodie Camp by making energy bites, hand pies, and hot cocoa jar mixes. At the end of camp, youth took home their completed recipe books along with some leftover goodies from the week. Foodie Camp was a great opportunity for youth to learn new cooking skills, try new foods, and create memories in the kitchen! Don’t forget to check out our Facebook page for more photos from the week!
