• Associate professor David Coyle has found that prediction models for 2025 show that southern pine beetles, which can destroy millions of dollars’ worth of timber during severe outbreaks in pine forests, will be highly active in several southeastern states, including South Carolina. 

• Clemson physicists Gerald Lehmacher and Miguel Larsen were part of a recent project to discover how the northern lights affect the upper atmosphere, which has implications for radio and satellite communications and spacecraft in low Earth orbit.
