About Depth& Accumulation

Two painters, Albracht and Radil, sift through the nature of ebb and flow in their medium, the stories we create and the balance of depth and frivolity in their new joint exhibition.

Albracht's work is created with watercolor and Prismacolor markers, which she uses to make layered images. Recently she added more media to her repertoire, including embroidery, acrylic painting, and collage. Through a process that emphasizes unconscious creation Albracht finds strong composition and aesthetically pleasing imagery reflects a mind optimized for the creative process, while unpleasing images reflect the creative mind's subjugation to other aspects of life.

Radil is a mixed media artist whose work combines illustration, painting and ephemera, particularly maps, accounting ledgers, and census pages. The layering process in her work represents depth of experience, history, personality, and accumulation that builds over time. Radil recently began using water color in her portraiture for its expressive effect. Nature is her muse, as are the handmade process and the life sustaining power of water. Her work ruminates on the ecosystems that sustain human life and the responsibility of humanity to preserve ecosystem health, as well as identity formation.

About the Artists

Albracht is an assistant professor of art education in the Department of Art and Design at Wayne State College. She is the owner and director of Blue Cat Gallery & Studio in downtown Wayne, NE. Previously, Albracht owned and operated L'eglise Art Center & Gallery in Aurora, NE while teaching K-12 art at Hampton Public School in Hampton, NE. Albracht served as the Visual Arts Coordinator for the Fall Arts & Music Festival in Aurora from 2004-2007 and on the Fine Arts Board of the Hamilton Community Foundation for ten years. She is a member of the Nebraska Art Teachers Association and has served as secretary since 2016.

Albracht completed a teaching endorsement for K-12 Art Education in 2009, a Masters of Arts in Museum Studies in 2003 from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, and a Bachelors of Arts in Studio Art and Psychology at the University of Nebraska at Kearney in 1999.

Radil studied studio art at Colorado College and completed graduate work in art therapy at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She recently returned from a residency in October 2018 at the Santa Fe Art Institute. Radil balances facilitating creative opportunities for others, studio art work in her north downtown location, and her role as a teaching artist with WhyArts? Her work is displayed in The Grey Plume restaurant and available at the gift shop of the Joslyn Art Museum.
