This month, we will also cheer on our Grad Slam 2015 Champion, Daniel Hieber of Linguistics, as he competes against nine other UC campus winners in the inaugural UC-wide Grad Slam in Oakland on Monday, May 4. | Today Is the Deadline to Register for 2015 Graduate Division Commencement
If you are eligible to participate in the Graduate Division's Commencement ceremony, today (May 1) is the deadline to register. Please go to the Commencement log-in page to register before the end of the day. The 2015 Graduate Division Commencement ceremony will be held on June 14 at 4 p.m. on the Faculty Club Green. | 3, 2, 1 . . . That's a Wrap for UCSB 2015 Grad Slam
During two weeks of action-packed competition, we heard details of dissertation research in three-minute bursts from 60 UCSB graduate students. Nearly two dozen disciplines were represented: from Communication to Chemistry; Education to Electrical and Computer Engineering; Marine Science to Political Science. A microbiologist and a historian are the focus of this month's Graduate Student in the Spotlight columns. - Selvi Ersoy. She's a WiSE, dramatic microbiologist who is obsessed with yoga. Learn more about Selvi, a 2015 Grad Slam finalist who spoke about "Killing Me Softly With Antibiotics."

Four Outstanding TA's
Each year the Academic Senate bestows three honors: Distinguished Teaching Awards; Outstanding Graduate Mentor Awards; and Outstanding Teaching Assistant Awards. Four graduate student teaching assistants were selected this year, and they were recognized at a reception and awards ceremony.
