Welcome back to campus and to Residential Life as we begin the spring semester! We hope you had a restful and refreshing Winter Break and are ready for the weeks ahead.
To our returning residents: welcome home. We’re glad to have you back in your spaces and back in community with friends, neighbors, and staff. To students who are joining Residential Life for the first time this semester, we are excited to welcome you and hope your transition into living with us is smooth and positive. And to those who are rejoining Residential Life after time away, welcome back—we’re glad to have you as part of our residential community again.
As you settle in, we encourage you to reconnect with your residential community, review important housing information and policies, and reach out to your Residential Life staff if you have questions or need support. Our team is here to help make your experience safe, comfortable, and engaging.
Be on the lookout from messages from your Resident Advisor (RA) regarding upcoming community meetings to be held the week of January 12 thru January 16.
We’re looking forward to a successful spring semester and are glad you’re here with us. Welcome back, welcome in, and welcome home.
Warm regards,
WashU Residential Life

Check-In for Returning Students from Last Semester
|
As you return to your Residential Life housing, please remember to complete the Self Check-In process in the Housing Portal. You can find this under the My Housing page.
|
Self Check-In should be completed as soon as you arrive back to campus, but not before your actual arrival. This step confirms that you have returned to your assigned space and helps ensure our records are accurate for the semester.
If you experience any issues or have questions, please contact Residential Life for assistance.
We’re glad to welcome you back and hope you have a great start to the semester.

Check-In for New Students or students rejoining Residential Life from study abroad or a leave of absence
|
If you are moving in for the first time or returning from study abroad or a leave of absense, please be sure to follow the check-in instructions that were emailed to you, as they include important details specific to your assignment and arrival.
When you arrive on campus, your check-in location will depend on where you live:
Students living on the South 40 should stop by the Residential Life Center in Zetcher House.
Students living on the Northside or in Off-Campus Residential Life housing should stop by the Residential Life Office in Village House.
At your check-in location, you will:
1. Check in with Residential Life staff
2. Pick up your WashU ID. Your old WashU ID card will not work
3. Receive your room key(s), if applicable
Our staff will be available to assist you and help ensure your move-in goes smoothly. If you have questions or need support, please don’t hesitate to ask when you arrive.
We’re glad to have you joining our residential community and look forward to welcoming you home.

Alongside ResLife, the team from WashU Emergency Management is excited to welcome you back to campus. We are looking forward to an amazing Spring semester and start of 2026. Your safety is our primary focus, and we wanted to remind you of a few key preparedness items:
|
-
Stay weather aware. Weather conditions can change rapidly, don’t be surprised.
- Know the locations of fire extinguishers, fire alarms, and emergency stairwells, especially in your dormitory.
-
In the event of a fire alarm, grab something warm to wear and leave immediately. Proceed to the exits via an emergency stairwell and gather at your designated Emergency Assembly Point (EAP). Find your EAP here: Danforth Map
-
Stay tuned and know who to call for help. WashU PD is available 24/7 @ 314-935-5555. Download the WashU Safe App and visit washu.edu.

Avoid using magnetic card holders, sleeves, or phone cases for your WashU ID and Room Key Cards. The magnetic material can damage the technology in your cards, causing them to stop working and potentially locking you out of your room. To keep your cards working properly, store them in a non-magnetic holder or wallet. In the event that your WashU ID stops working on any Residential Life facility, stop by the nearest Residential Life office for assistance.

|
| If you have any emergency maintenance need, please let your RA or RCD know. If you are unable to quickly find an RA or RCD, please call WashU Police at (314) 935-5555.
Emergencies include things like overflowing water, leaks, lack of heating/AC, no power, or clogged drains.
For all other maintenance issues, please submit a Maintenance Request →.
