Galatians 4:4-6
But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law,  to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship.  Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.”
New International Version (NIV)
You may have heard that Stephen Hawking passed away this week.  By all accounts and measures he was exceptionally brilliant.  Remember he wrote a “Brief History of Time.”  In the book, Hawking took on cosmology covering topics from the big bang to black holes.

The Greek language in which the New Testament was written used two different words for time.  On the one hand they used the word chronos which speaks of chronological or ordered time.  The other word is Kairos which speaks of a specific season of time.

Unlike Hawking, the scriptures believed that the God who existed before time is still part of time, intervening at special moments.  So Paul believed, “In the fullness of time, God sent forth his Son.”  Jesus was born into a Jewish family subject to the law.  For Paul the law serves a teaching function as our guardian until Christ came.  Then in the fullness of time (chronos), right on God’s Standard Time (G. S. T.), Jesus was born to redeem the people under the law. Because God has adopted us into his family we call him “Abba,” Father.  I still remember the day our adopted daughter asked me, “Can I call you dad?”  Do you want to know God as your Father?  Then believe in his Son.  It’s time!
Pray with me:
Abba, Father, thank you for the gift of time.  We pray that we would not waste it today, lest we damage eternity.  Help us to invest it for your greater glory.  Take our moments and our days.  Let them flow in ceaseless praise.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
This year we focus our Every Day with Jesus readings on Jesus’ story.  With references to Tallowood's Read Through the Bible in 2018 daily reading plan, let's focus our undivided attention on Jesus and follow where he lead. He will not fail. Neither will we!

Joyfully,
