2 Kings 17:13-15
The Lord warned Israel and Judah through all his prophets and seers: “Turn from your evil ways. Observe my commands and decrees, in accordance with the entire Law that I commanded your ancestors to obey and that I delivered to you through my servants the prophets.”  But they would not listen and were as stiff-necked as their ancestors, who did not trust in the Lord their God.  They rejected his decrees and the covenant he had made with their ancestors and the statutes he had warned them to keep. They followed worthless idols and themselves became worthless. They imitated the nations around them although the Lord had ordered them, “Do not do as they do.”
New International Version (NIV)
You have surely heard the expression, "You are what you eat!"  It turns out that this is not exactly true.  But what would we be if it were true?

On the other hand, it is true that we will become like whatever we worship.  We learn that the children of Israel stopped worshiping the Lord and started worshiping idols.  God invited them to return to him but they would not.  "They followed worthless idols and they themselves became worthless."

It is possible to know the price of everything and the value of nothing.  Whatever we give our hearts to is what we worship.  Eventually we will become like our objects of worship.  If we worship worthless things, we may fully expect to become worthless.  If we worship the Lord we will become like him.  He is not worthless.  The Lamb is worthy.  So worship him and find your true worth!

 Pray with me:
Father, the dearest idols of our souls, whatever those idols be, help us to tear them from our hearts and worship only thee.  In Jesus' name.  Amen.
This year we focus our Every Day with Jesus readings on Jesus’ story.  With references to Tallowood's Read Through the Bible in 2018 daily reading plan, let's focus our undivided attention on Jesus and follow where he lead. He will not fail. Neither will we!

Joyfully,
