SOLVE Researcher Spotlight July
Prof Robyn Gallagher, University of Sydney
Robyn Gallagher is Professor of Nursing, Faculty of Medicine and Health, Sydney Nursing School based at the Charles Perkins Centre and an Honorary Professor at Edinburgh Napier University. Professor Gallagher’s clinical and academic career focusses on understanding and supporting patients who have the cardiovascular disease to engage in secondary prevention behaviors to reduce their risk of future cardiovascular events. She leads intervention programs that use technology such as mobile apps and wearable trackers to support behavior change in cardiac patients in multidisciplinary teams. Her work with these teams has been internationally recognised, won awards, and altered clinical practice leading to significant changes in policy. Her work also promotes the quality of secondary prevention interventions such as cardiac rehabilitation and she leads quality initiatives at the national and international levels.
As the Chief Investigator of SOLVE-CHD NHMRC Synergy, she will be leading establishment and implementation of data-drive quality improvement for cardiac rehabilitation in New South Wales in collaboration with national efforts. She will evaluate innovative strategies to improve access to secondary prevention including mobile apps and promoting patient’s understanding of information through tailored interventions for people experiencing cognitive impairment and cultural and linguistic diversity.
