Psalm 37:23-24
The Lord makes firm the steps
    of the one who delights in him;
 though he may stumble, he will not fall,
    for the Lord upholds him with his hand.

New International Version (NIV)
                 Do you ever fall?  My running partners and I calculate that every couple of years we will catch a toe on a root, or the pavement will reach up and trip us.  The day our eldest son and his beautiful bride married, I caught a curb in Waco.  Thankfully the fall occasioned no gash, but lots of road rash.  Lesson learned.

                Worse than our biennial spills are our spiritual stumbles.  In his mellifluous voice, my friend Kerry Tillmon sings, "The chimes of time ring out the news.  Someone slipped and fell.  Was that someone you?"  After David invites us in this acrostic song to trust, take delight in, commit our way to and be still before the Lord, he tells us what the Lord does for his people.  He upholds us.

                Remember when you saw little ones in your family learn to walk.  Everybody cheered the determination of the child, but someone walked behind with hands ready to catch the baby in case of the collapse.   David reminds us that our good, good Father walks behind us, ready to catch us.  As Henri Nouwen says, on the trapeze act of life, we are not the catchers, but the fliers.  The Catcher will catch you!

Pray with me the words of Jesus’ little brother Jude (Jude vv. 24-25)  who knew his older brother was his Lord:
“To him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages now and forevermore!  Amen.”
I want to invite you to join me in memorizing 52 passages this year from the 2017 set of Fighter Verses.  You can find the Fighter Verses App at the App Store on your phones or via this link  http://fighterverses.com/the-verses/fighter-verses/As we study the Bible this year, let's look at each text and learn what it says about God.
Joyfully,
