Blue Jay Families,
The 2023–2024 academic year has officially begun! We're so excited to welcome the Class of 2027 and all of our new and returning Blue Jay families.
Our monthly newsletter, the Blue Jay Family Flyer, highlights resources to support your student, news and events from around campus, and suggestions for staying involved from afar. You can also follow us on Facebook and visit our website to learn more about our programming for parents and families.
Please contact the Office of Family Engagement at bluejayfamilies@jhu.edu if you have questions. We look forward to seeing many of you on campus for Family Weekend next month!
Sincerely,
Emily Calderone

Welcoming students back to campus |
Every fall, we welcome new and returning students back to campus with Blue Jay Welcome Weeks, seven weeks of programming designed to help students make new friends, learn about resources, build community, and discover all that JHU has to offer.
Events around campus include everything from celebrations and block parties to live performances and athletic games—there's truly something for everyone to enjoy! Students can view all upcoming events in their Hopkins Groups app.

Health insurance reminder |
The deadline to opt out of the University Health Insurance Plan is September 15. In order to opt out, students must be covered under another plan that offers similar coverage. International students may not opt out of the university plan. Additional details can be found on the Student and Learner Health Benefits website.
As a reminder, in order to opt out of the university plan, students must complete the waiver each academic year.

Democracy Day: "All of us have a role to play" |
For most Johns Hopkins undergraduates, the college experience is filled with a long list of firsts—including the first election in which they are eligible to vote. With that in mind, JHU held its third annual Democracy Day on Saturday, August 26, offering students an introduction to the democratic process and the ways they can engage with it.
