National Social Studies Teacher of the Year Award Winner at St M!
The National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS) announced its award-winning social studies educators and researchers for 2024 this week and St. Michael's is VERY excited to announce that Middle School Social Studies teacher Sam Futrell was honored as the National Secondary (Gr 7-12) Social Studies Teacher of the Year!
NCSS's Outstanding Teachers of the Year Awards are awarded to educators around the country for demonstrating exceptional ability and innovation as a social studies teacher. Founded in 1921, the National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS) is the largest professional association in the country devoted solely to social studies education. Its mission is to provide leadership, service, professional development, and support for all educators. The NCSS membership represents K-12 classroom teachers at both public and private schools, college and university faculty members, curriculum designers and specialists, social studies supervisors, and leaders in the various disciplines that constitute the social studies.

LS Fruit/Veggie Challenge Winner
The Lower School Fruit and Veggie Challenge grade winner is..... Kindergarten! Congratulations to our kindergarteners who will be receiving an extra PE class and a fruit party.
The Lower School as a whole ate 1,458 servings of fruits and vegetables over the course of the challenge! Way to go!

Lower School Thanksgiving Reading Bingo
Over the river and through the woods, to read some books we go! All Lower School students are invited to check off any reading activities you complete over Thanksgiving break on your Thanksgiving Book Bingo sheet.
Once you're done, ask an adult to initial the bottom and bring your signed bingo sheet back to school after break. Complete three activities in a row to win one prize, or complete the whole sheet to win two prizes. Happy reading!

LAST CALL: Holiday Wreath Making
Join us for a St. Michael's Parents' Association (SMPA) Holiday Wreath Making Fundraiser, led by Sue Mondeau of Su Su's Petals! We are thrilled to have Sue joining us again this year after a sold-out wonderful event last year!
When: Sunday, December 8th, 3-5 p.m. Where: Singleton Hall - Great Hall Price: $130 pp
Details: Su Su's Petals provides fresh greenery, special accent greenery and berries, wreath forms, paddle wire, and a special box of sweet treats for each guest!
Please bring your own clippers if you have them, though extras will be provided. You are also welcome to bring your own ribbon. Capacity is capped at 35 people.
We have a few spots left. Come join the fun! The registration deadline has been extended to Monday, November 25.

Holiday Pop- Up Shop
Save the Dates: The St. Michael's Parents' Association (SMPA) is excited to host a Holiday Pop-Up Shop on FRIDAY, DECEMBER 6 from 2:30-3:30 p.m. and SATURDAY, DECEMBER 7, from 8- 11 a.m. in the Middle School Great Hall.
Our annual Holiday Pop-Up Shop is a perfect way to show your DRAGON PRIDE while picking up St M stocking stuffers, ornaments, and holiday gifts. (We even have new St M flannel PJ pants!) Quantities are limited. Stay tuned for more details!

Holly Jolly! Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting
Save the Date: Our Annual Christmas Parade & Tree Lighting on THURSDAY, December 12 at 6 p.m. It's a much-loved and must-see event!
Important Note: Extended Day CLOSES that day at 4:30 p.m.
Join us for a festive evening that includes a float parade around The Green, choral performances, all-school caroling, and lighting of the Christmas tree. Santa himself will even make a special appearance. It is sure to get you in the holiday spirit!

HOLIDAY NOTE/GIFT DEADLINES: Spiritwear makes great holiday gifts!
- Orders must be placed by SUNDAY, DECEMBER 8, to receive items before the Christmas Break on December 17.
- PLEASE PLACE ON THE ORDER FORM NOTES if it is a GIFT item and should NOT be sent home with your child. Gift orders may be picked up from the St M front offices.
Every FRIDAY is DRAGON DRESS DAY! Wear above-waist St M spiritwear or blue/white with pride!

For the health and safety of all of our students, faculty, and staff, thank you for informing St. Michael’s if your child is ill and/or has a suspected contagious illness.
Upon receipt of this information, Nurse Maben, St M's school nurse, will contact the family. Please keep your child(ren) AT HOME until contacted by Nurse Maben.
