University Day is a long‑standing tradition that brings Ducks together in the spirit of campus pride and community service. On Thursday, May 14, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., students, staff, faculty, alumni, and community members are invited to help beautify campus by planting flowers, weeding beds, cleaning up litter, and more. Volunteers check in at the EMU Amphitheater and can earn a free U‑Day T‑shirt with just one hour of service.
One station on U-Day will improve the Millrace Natural Area. Volunteers will expand the nature trail westward along the south bank of the Millpond, increasing engagement opportunities and access for students and the community.

After a two-year planning effort with technical analysis and community input, the University has released a new Campus Transportation Plan. The plan provides a 20+ year framework to guide transportation investments that support campus growth and align with the Campus Plan. It advances a coordinated, multimodal approach that prioritizes walking, biking, mobility devices, and transit, while maintaining essential vehicle access and supporting campus sustainability goals.

Interns Get a Behind‑the‑Scenes Look at U&E |
U&E recently hosted a behind‑the‑scenes tour for VPFA interns, thanks to Steve, Rick, Paul, and Mike, who shared their time and expertise. The group explored the facility, gained insight into day‑to‑day operations, and even got a firsthand look at the tunnel, one of the highlights of the visit.
The interns came away impressed by both the scale of the facility and the work that happens behind the scenes to support campus!

McKenzie Hall Preservation Plan Open House |
Date: Monday, May 18, 2026, 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm
Location: McKenzie Hall, 1101 Kincaid Street, Room 240C
The Office of Campus Planning has received $150,000 from the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund. With generous support from The Getty, this funding will allow the University of Oregon to hire an architecture firm to develop a historic preservation and interpretation plan for McKenzie Hall, designed by DeNorval Unthank, Jr., the first Black graduate of UO’s architecture school.
The University of Oregon is one of 24 sites nationwide to receive a share of $3 million in grant funding to advance ongoing preservation efforts for historic sites, buildings, and landscapes that represent Black cultural heritage. With more than $150 million raised, the African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund is the largest U.S. resource dedicated to the preservation of African American historic places.

Swing Shift Swings into May with a 5-star Potluck on a 4-star Friday! |
Swing shift custodial begins May with a potluck that had custodians with a satisfying start of shift meal provided by its crew and manager. Coordinator Chris McLaughlin and his smoked brisket that would make even Gordon Ramsey's mouth water along with Zack Ogborn's salad had even salad skeptics wanting more. Evan Lane and his baked banana and pumpkin bread was a hit along with generous portions of chicken macaroni and potato salad. It was all washed down with a mountain of soft drink options that would have even the biggest soda pop fanatic happy. From manager all the way down to temp employee everyone started Fridays swing shift with smiles and full stomachs.

A big thank you to Brianna Liberty and Renee Benoit for the final touches on our office remodel. They were able to squeeze in the installation of free cubicle panels from HR’s move out of PeaceHealth North and update the lighting in additional areas. All the staff are very pleased with this simple but big improvement! -Emily Eng
