Hi Neighbor!
My son has been home since March finishing up his sophomore year at college and he’s heading back to South Carolina to work for the summer. I’ve been getting a "care package" together for him and was worried I wouldn’t be able to find all of the supplies I wanted him to have on hand.  I was surprised to find everything I needed at this local shop. I had been looking for supplies at Target, CVS, Wegmans with no luck. I thought, well maybe some of the smaller local places will have what I need so I called and they sure did! I was able to get him a black cloth mask, gel and liquid hand sanitizer, gloves and a digital thermometer. They even had a a pulse oximeter!
I’m worried about him leaving and being on his own but feel a little better knowing he has some essentials. Now let’s just hope he uses them!
Be Well,
Regina

MORE LOCAL LOVE
SELF-CARE DURING COVID-19
from The Beck Institute

Resources from Dr. Broder, The Beck Institute
Due to time constraints, Dr. Broder was unable to answer all of the questions attendees submitting during the webinar. However, she has now gone through the outstanding questions, and provided the following responses:

Q: I work with children with special needs. What are some ways that we can explain our current situation with them and keep them positive during this time of uncertainty?
A: Your question is so important. While working with children is not my specialty, i wanted to pass on these websites that you might find useful: effectivechildtherapy.org and infoaboutkids.org.

Q: Would "Flourish" by Martin Seligman be a good start for reading about gratitude?
A: Yes, Flourish by Seligman is a wonderful book to get started on gratitude and thinking more positively in general.  One of my favorite exercises in this book, "What Went Well and Why" suggests identifying 3 things that went well each day (and why) as a way to pratice noticing the positive, and your role in it.  Additional books to suggest would be Gratitude by Oliver Sachs, and Authentic Happiness, also by Martin Seligman.

Q: Can you talk about grief and losing loved ones?
A: Talking about grief and losing loved ones is so very important right now.  A book that has been recommended to me (I haven't read it, but figured I'd pass it on) is When Things Fall Apart by Pema Chodron.

Our goal is to serve as your personal Chief Financial Officer.
