Faculty Spotlight - Mike Eom
Congratulations to Mike Eom who recently earned full Professor at University of Portland's Pamplin School of Business!
Mike also holds the Emerald Distinguished Professor of Operations & Technology Management (OTM) and Information Systems. He earned his B.S. in Economics from Iowa State University, his M.A. in Economics from the State University of New York at Albany, and his M.B.A. in Finance and MIS and Ph.D. in Management from the State University of New York at Binghamton.
His areas of teaching include introductory OTM, systems analysis, database management and Excel spreadsheet modeling. His research interests are in IS leadership, IT Project Management, Strategic Use of IT, Corporate Social Responsibility, Healthcare IT, E-commerce, Virtual Organization, and IT Valuation.
He has several publications in Journal of Information Management, Journal of Management Systems, Journal of Information Technology Management, JITTA, and International Journal of E-Business Research and a book chapter. He also serves on the editorial board for JITM and in executive advisory for CIO Forum & Society for Information Management (SIM). Mike is also the president of Association for Information System (AIS) Special Interest Group (SIG) on IT Leadership. AIS SIGLEAD has 100+ researchers across the globe.

Portland Business Journal's CFO of the Year 
The Pamplin School of Business is proud to continue its long-standing sponsorship of the Portland Business Journal's CFO of the Year Awards. Over 500 regional executives will gather on May 18th  to recognize and celebrate 16 financial officers who have been nominated for "CFO of the Year" in their respective categories: Large, Medium, Small private business, Public companies, and Nonprofits. Dave Luhr, Global President of W+K along with Global CFO, Claudia Valderrama will provide a CEO/CFO on-stage interview. Pamplin School of Business' Associate Dean, Dr. Brian Adams will present the award for the Public Company Category.

Partnership with Yahoo, Inc.
With a new corporate partnership in place, the Pamplin School of Business was able to visit Yahoo, Inc.'s campus located in Hillsboro and provide an onsite Info Session for prospective graudate students. The site is ideal in that it is only a ten minute commute from the Pamplin School of Business' Westside campus.
Director of Graduate Programs, Melissa McCarthy offered a detailed overview on current graduate programs available, including the opportunity to pursue the new Business Analytics Certificate, an online program that will launch this Fall.

May Alumni Lunches: Cambia, Audigy Providence and Daimler
Hosting lunches in the Portland community allows the Pamplin School of Business faculty and staff to connect and reconnect with our business alums. A visit was made to Cambia Health Solutions this week - thanks to our strong partnership there. The Pamplin School of Business also plans visits at Audigy Group, Providence and Daimler this month along with visits scheduled at Nike and Adidas in June.

Pamplin Veteran/Military Outreach
The Pamplin School of Business is excited to initiate a partnership with Vetwork PDX - a group that is committed to supporting veterans in Portland and believes in an organic approach to building a strong community of veterans. They will host a special Memorial Day networking event on Wednesday, May 24th at the Lucky Labrador Tap Room and the Pamplin School of Business is proud to sponsor. Chamber Connections at Westside Campus
The Pamplin School of Business continues to make connections with businesses located in the Silicon Forest. To strengthen commuity relationships in the area, the Pamplin School of Business held a "Wake up Hillsboro!" networking event in conjunction with the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce. This was a great opportunity to connect with business owners and leaders in the area.
There is a "Coffee Connections" networking event scheduled for Friday, May 19th, at the Westside campus, in partnership with the Beaverton Chamber of Commerce. The event is open to the public and all are welcome. For event details and to register, visit here >>

What are the Dean's Advisory Boards?
The Dean's Executive Advisory Boards (EAB) are comprised of UP alums who are leading professional business men and women from Portland, San Francisco, Seattle, and beyond. Members of the board are proactive in connecting current students and alumni with unique and relevant industry experience. They act in partnership with the Pamplin School of Business to provide a pulse on current business trends and promote our programs throughout the wider region.

Spotlight Board Member - Cameron Jackson
Portland chapter
Cameron Jackson received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Portland. He earned an MBA from the Pamplin School of Business in 2004. Currently, Manager  of Governance, Risk and Compliance for Columbia Sportswear, Cameron is considered an industry thought leader in this space and has 13+ years of leading large public company investment in integrated risk and compliance programs. He is married to Ali, a UP Nursing graduate, and he is father to Charlie (3) and Aubrey (7) who love going to the UP sporting events! Cameron firmly believes in simply saying "yes" to opportunities - that opened the door to allow for summers in Morelia and London while studying at UP. His favorite teachers were Dr. Gritta and Dr. Adrangi - primarily because of the time they spent in London together but also because of their light hearted approach to making learning fun!
Spotlight Board Member - Mai Tran
San Francisco chapter
Mai lives in the Bay area with her husband and adorable french bull dogs, Emmy and Mean Joe Green. They enjoy traveling and exploring new restaurants. Mai is currently a Senior Director, Customer Engagement and Marketing for Salesforce. She is a UP alum, having received her Bachelor in Science in Marketing and Management from the Pamplin School of Business. Having held various leadesrhip roles within Salesforce and now serving on the San Franciso chapter of the Dean's Advisory Board, we are excited to have Mai join our team. Welcome!
Spotlight Board Member - Lauren Hunter
Seattle chapter
Lauren currently serves as Corporate Counsel for T-Mobile in Seattle. Her vast educational experience has allowed her to thrive in her legal career. She earned her Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from the Pamplin School of Business with magna cum laude honors. She went on to earn a Masters in Science in Finance and Juris Doctor, cum laude from Seattle University. Great to have you on the Seattle board Lauren!

ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT 
Top CPA Performer in the Nation
Taylor Moore was among the 58 candidates (a total of 102,323 individuals sat for the examination) who met the critera to earn the 2016 Elijah Watt Sells Award. The honor is bestowed upon CPA candidates who obtained a cumulative average score above 95.50 across all four sections of the Uniform CPA Examination, passed all four sections of the examination on their first attempt and completed testing in 2016.  A lifelong Oregonian who loves the Northwest, Taylor credits his wife and two kids who keep him motivated.
Taylor graduated with an MBA (class of '15) from the Pamplin School of Business and has been working at Intel for 5 years. He decided to pursue the CPA designation to enhance his business acumen and open new opportunities. Congratulations Taylor! We are feeling the Pamplin pride for you! #PamplinPride
