Though the nights may be chilly, spring is right around the corner, and just about everybody’s getting pretty excited about seeing the forests turn green again. While we wait to see how lamblike the weather may be over the upcoming weeks, Brevard and Transylvania boast a lion's share of great activities and events, no matter the temperature. Get out there and explore what's going on as we bid farewell to one glorious season and welcome another.

Feeling a little stir crazy? Maybe it’s time to dust off the old running shoes and take off at this popular family-friendly race event, with a mostly flat course. Come for the exercise, stay for kids’ stuff, food trucks, pastries, beer and more.

Armchair thrill-seekers and adrenaline junkies rejoice! The Banff Mountain Film Festival rolls into town for three action-packed days of exploration, adventure and breathtaking places that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Curiosity recommended. Crampons not required. 

The 19th Amendment, enshrining a woman’s right to vote, has its 100th birthday in 2020. To celebrate the auspicious event, the Transylvania Heritage Museum has put together a very special exhibition highlighting milestones in women’s history regionally, and the women of Transylvania County who helped make this community such an extraordinary place.

Catch the sound of the auld sod at this performance of songs and stories from Emmet Cahill, widely regarded as “Ireland’s most exciting young tenor.” Audiences can expect a wide variety of songs, ranging from church hymns to Broadway show tunes to traditional Irish ballads and put in for their own personal favorite during a song request medley. 

Downtown Brevard has always been a great spot to make something memorable—a great night out, a perfect memory or a weekend excursion. But at Arts in March, creators and authors may challenge you to take that vision to the next level with a gallery walk, art talks, workshops, demos, live music and much more. Things kick off with a Fourth Friday Gallery Walk and continue through a jam-packed Saturday.

Come celebrate the history and heritage of the French Broad River’s north fork at this fun-for-everyone all-day event. Hang out with paddlers, swap gear, and check out demos, discussion panels and documentary films. Listen to great live music. Grab a bite at a food truck. And, if the spirit moves you, jump in on a river cleanup.
