Dear alumni and friends:

The spring semester is in full swing, with many updates to share and people to celebrate.

Several faculty members have earned support to expand their research and impact. The Vanderbilt Policy Accelerator, led by Ganesh Sitaraman, was awarded a grant by the Omidyar Network to develop proposals for AI governance, in partnership with the Economic Security Project.

Arnold Ventures designated Farhang Heydari as the Principal Investigator on a grant supporting a civil rights and civil liberties evaluation of AI-powered technologies that analyze police body-worn camera footage. Arnold Ventures is also supporting an event by The Vanderbilt Project on Prosecution Policy (VPOPP) and Criminal Justice Program to be held this May, entitled “Prosecution in the South: Innovative Policies and Challenges.”

We also hosted a live recording of Advisory Opinions, a legal podcast hosted by David French and Sarah Isgur, last week in Flynn.

Three Vanderbilt Ph.D. Law & Economics Graduates Began Tenure-Track Faculty Positions

Clayton J. Masterman J.D./Ph.D '19, Erin E. Meyers J.D./Ph.D '21, and Zachary Sturman J.D./Ph.D. '23 began new tenure-track positions in the 2022-2023 academic year. Read more.

First Amendment Clinic Champions Transparency in Maryland Police Misconduct Records Case

The Stanton Foundation First Amendment Clinic represented their client in a hearing before the Montgomery County Circuit Court earlier this month.

Samuel Carey '24 and Jared Mauman '24 argued two crucial motions in a case that challenges efforts to obscure police misconduct records. Read more.

Elodie Currier '23 Earns 2023 Brown Award for Excellence in Legal Writing

Currier took first place in the annual competition for her article The Myth of Anonymity: De-Identified Data as Legal Fiction. She was recommended by Lisa Schultz Bressman, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and David Daniels Allen Distinguised Chair in Law.

The prize comes with a $15,000 award and donation of $5,000 to a Vanderbilt Law scholarship. Read more.
